GRANDPA'S TRACTOR

Grandpa's time spent preparing
Grandpa's hands shining that Farmall
Red body preparing and shining for weeks

Competition--he's not in it for the trophy
He's in it for the time spent with his grandson
He takes me to dinner
He takes me for a ride
He teaches me

But now he is gone
Now I must polish
I must prepare
Now I must pass it on.

In memory of

THE BEACH

The sand on your toes
They feel like tiny massagers
Filled with heat

The water shimmers like diamonds
Waiting to be shattered

The wind is a tiny breath
Waiting
To jump in the deep blue
