Sunrise Blessing

Oh, how dark
the clouds of night,
and my heart
so full of fright.

I feel a storm
has gathered round,
but I am helpless;
my feet are bound.

I shiver here
against the cold
and lonely dark.
I'm tired and old.

A smudge of light
appears so far,
horizon's edge,
perhaps a star.

And then light spreads
across the sky,
in red and gold
their patterns lie.

Is this a sign
of hope to come?
And dare I dream
my pain be done?
