Inspiration and Hope

Cancer is so limited...
it cannot cripple love,
shatter hope,
corrode faith,
destroy confidence,
kill friendships,
shut out memories,
silence courage,
invade the soul,
or conquer the spirit.

Hope is the thing with feathers
that perches in the soul
and sings the tune without words
and never stops--at all.

Emily Dickinson

Do you know that the ribbon you
wear to support research and cure
for breast cancer is pink, and the
ribbon for ovarian cancer is TEAL?

This poster is displayed in my home.
It's entitled "Anything is Possible."
The artist is Melissa Harris. I got this from
http://www.femailcreations.com/, and I find
inspiration and hope every time I walk by it.

HYMN SING

Hymnsing, a journey my heart sings
A song of beginnings
I'm on my way, I will go

Hymnsing, a fountain of lifespring
The gift of a morning
I'm on my way

I go now to meet a new day
To make my own way
I will go.
My eyes stay high on the sun's ray
Following the wing's way
I will go.

Written to describe the butterfly's
wondrous emergence from its chrysalis.

When I had 200 hours of chemo in 1994,
I found a great deal of help by honing
my sense of humor. I used to collect
one-liners and bumperstickers. These
were among the first things I ever put
on my website at WWW.DACTON.COM.
They're down under "Acton's Attic."

Shortly after I finished chemotherapy,
I began to lose my vision to a corneal
disease. Then I found my salvation in
writing, especially in collaboration with
musicians I had met on the Internet. The
song "Hymnsing" was one of these efforts.
I did the words to "Hymnsing" as part of a
project called "Songs for the Butterfly,"
which is also at the WWW.DACTON.COM site.
This creative writing was therapeutic for me and
(I've been told) has been inspirational for others.

Miracle Morning

I dreamed I was a flower
That was painted on the wall,
My colors growing paler
'Til I wasn't there at all.

I wakened from my slumber
To behold a wondrous sight
Of butterflies and angels
And a sunrise chasing night.

That morning gave me courage,
Full of flowers and birds in song.
There's work yet to accomplish
'Til time tells me, "Run along."

That which does not break us makes us strong.

Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept things I cannot change,
courage to change things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.
